Description

The National Park Service has the honor of preserving battlefields, military parks, and historic sites that commemorate and honor the service of American veterans. These sites and the stories they tell provide opportunities for our military community to connect to the landscapes and the important history they defend. This project will focus on engaging veterans (Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps instructors), university students, grade 9-12 students, and National Park personnel together in the study and analysis of military history. Previous Kutztown University Frederick Douglass Institute research concluded that an improved experiential model would include a more active role for our veterans and park personnel when networking and studying military history with Higher Education and K-12 School students in National Park places. This project aims to facilitate the collaboration of research, preparation and delivery of military history topics by multiple communities. Studentsâ¿¿ perspectives of military history will be shared as they engage in dialogue with veterans and park personnel in national park spaces concerning the nation's ongoing quest to fulfill the promise of life, liberty and happiness for all.
