Description
For over a decade, the Mid Klamath Watershed Council (MKWC) has successfully implemented its portion of the cooperative fall Chinook carcass survey effort with the USDA Forest Service, California Department of Fish and Wildlife and other partners to achieve program objectives. This includes: 1. Determining in-river run size (escapement) of Chinook salmon within the Salmon River and Klamath Basin. 2. Determining run timing, spawning distribution, length frequency, and sex ratio for fall Chinook salmon. 3. Collecting fish scale, tissue, and otolith samples, and recover heads from adipose fin clipped salmon. 4. Collecting incidental information on coho salmon and steelhead observed during the course of the study. 5. Contributing to redd mapping efforts by acquiring GPS waypoints at all redd locations on the North Fork, South Fork and mainstem Salmon River. 6. Continuing to provide training and education to volunteers and local communities.
