Section III
Description
National Public Lands Day. This agreement will allow NEEF to coordinate activities and efforts of NPS as part of National Public Lands Day. NPS will benefit from work that will be carried out by volunteers throughout America at the various national park sites that NPS nominates into the program. National Public Lands Day has been implemented over the years by NPS, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and other federal agencies that are charged with protecting, restoring and/or managing America's natural resource base. Hands on the Land. This agreement will allow NEEF to coordinate activities with the NPS in support of Hands on the Land, a national network of outdoor classrooms on public lands and waterways that enhance K-12 education. Hands on the Land sites provide field-based opportunities for meaningful learning that connects students to the outdoors while exposing them to issues confronting 21st -century land managers, introducing them to natural and cultural resources careers, and fostering environmental stewardship. Tribal Schools STEM Projects. This agreement will allow NEEF to coordinate activities with the NPS in support of projects that teach Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) skills to students from tribal schools in parks. Students from tribal schools have been identified as underserved in STEM skills. These projects engage students from tribal schools in hands on citizen science activities using park resources and engaging with park subject matter experts. NEEF assists NPS in the administration, management and implementation of these efforts.
