Promotion of the Humanities Challenge Grants

Objective

To strengthen institutional base and organizational capacity for work in the humanities by providing funds that are matched with cash contributions from nonfederal parties. Successful applicants receive awards in federal matching funds intended to stimulate additional private, state, and local support for humanities organizations.

Who Can Apply

  • U.S. State Government (including the District of Columbia)
  • U.S. Territory (or Possession) Government (including freely-associated states)
  • Federally Recognized Indian/Native American/Alaska Native Tribal Government
  • Municipality or Township government (inclusive of cities, towns, boroughs (except in Alaska), and villages)
  • County Government (inclusive of boroughs in Alaska, parishes and other governmental entities with geographic regional control and authority)
  • Other Local Government Consortium, Regional Organization (Intrastate), or Other Local Government Combination
  • Other Special Disctrict Government
  • Not-for-Profit Organization

Eligible applicants include U.S. nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, public and 501(c)(3) accredited institutions of higher education, state and local governmental agencies, and federally recognized Native American Tribal governments.
