PREA Program: Strategic Support for PREA Implementation

Objective

Program goal(s) name: Improve correctional facilities’ efforts to prevent, detect, and respond to sexual abuse and sexual harassment. Program goal(s) description: Increase staff capacity, promote integration of PREA Standards, and achieve and maintain compliance with PREA Standards. Program objective(s) name: Provide training and improve polices procedures to implement and comply with National PREA Standards. Program objective(s) description: Develop and revise agency policies and procedures to fully incorporate the PREA Standards; Create and implement comprehensive training programs for staff, inmates, residents, and detainees on the prevention of and response to sexual abuse and harassment; Implement strategies and initiatives to establish a "zero tolerance" culture for sexual abuse within all confinement facilities; Identify and implement strategies to address specific PREA Standards and address any deficiencies identified during the audits by undergoing and completing the required corrective actions; Contract with or secure the services of one or more DOJ-certified PREA auditors to schedule and complete audits for each covered facility within the 3-year audit cycle; and Implement a system for collecting and reviewing data related to sexual victimization to support compliance efforts.
