Residential Substance Abuse Treatment for State Prisoners

Objective
Program goal(s) name: Improve substance use treatment during and after incarceration to reduce recidivism. Program goal(s) description: Increase access to treatment for individuals with substance use or co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders during detention or incarceration and improve continuity of care during and after reentry by delivering community-based treatment and other broad-based aftercare services. Program objective(s) name: Improve access to substance use treatment, continuity of care and other services to support long term recovery in the community. Program objective(s) description: Enhance the capabilities of states and units of local and tribal governments to provide residential substance use treatment for incarcerated inmates; Provide individuals leaving incarceration with support to connect to needed services before they are released, ensuring they have a plan for ongoing treatment and other support services in the community; and Support individuals leaving correctional facilities to connect with aftercare services in the community, such as education, job training, housing, and peer support, to help them stay in treatment and reduce recidivism.
