Objective
The Manufactured Housing Program is a national program established to protect the health and safety of those that own and occupy manufactured homes through the enforcement of the federal manufactured home construction and safety standards and administration of dispute resolution. HUD administers the National Manufactured Housing Construction and Safety Standards Act of 1974 (the Act) which authorizes HUD to establish federal standards for the design and construction of manufactured homes to assure quality, durability, safety, and affordability.

The program may only address disputes between manufacturers, retailers, and installers of manufactured homes regarding responsibility for the correction or repair of defects in manufactured homes that are reported during the 1-year period beginning on the date of installation. Manufactured home owners may initiate action under, and be observers to, the HUD Manufactured Home Dispute Resolution Program, as provided regulation (24CFR3288.15). There must be an alleged defect in the manufactured home that was reported within one year of installation of the home. Refer to HUD's website at www.hud.gov/omhp for additional information.
