Cost Recovery, Crab Rationalization and Shellfish Programs

Objective

1) Cost Recovery Program: Section 304(d)(2) of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act authorizes and requires NOAA Fisheries to recover the actual costs directly related to the management, data collection, and enforcement of any Limited Access Privilege (LAP) program and the Western Alaska Community Development Quota (CDQ) Program. 2) Crab Rationalization Program: Allocates crab resources among harvesters, processors, and coastal communities for nine Bering Sea and Aleutian Island crab fisheries. 3) Shellfish Assessment Program: Provides funding for a wide range of research and surveys on various fish, crab and shellfish species to assess the distribution and abundance of various commercially important crab and groundfish resources.
