Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment Program
NATIONAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION ADMINISTRATION · COMMERCE, DEPARTMENT OF · Program page ↗
Objective
Congress directed the National Telecommunications and Information Administration to deploy the BEAD program through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, 2022 because of the need to connect the remaining 4.8 million unserved and underserved locations in America lacking access to high-speed broadband. At the direction of the Secretary, NTIA intends to meet that need. The BEAD program will focus on deploying broadband service to unserved areas, those without any broadband service at all or with slow speeds. The BEAD Program next will focus on provision of broadband to underserved areas—those that have access to broadband service of at least 25 Mbps downstream/3 Mbps upstream but less than 100 Mbps downstream/20 Mbps upstream.
