Objective
Capital Maintenance and Improvement for Forest Service The objective of Capital Maintenance and Improvement for the Forest Service is to ensure the longevity and efficiency of its infrastructure assets. This includes the maintenance and rehabilitation of mission-critical buildings, recreation sites, roads, bridges, dams, and the decommissioning of infrastructure assets no longer needed. The Forest Service aims to reduce the deferred maintenance backlog by investing in capital improvement and maintenance projects that address improvements, repairs, and rehabilitation of these assets. These projects are evaluated against predetermined criteria to ensure efficient and strategic investments that support the agency's mission and strategic goals. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) establishes new funds to address these objectives.
