Restrictions
Grants and awards are made under two categories: 1) Grants are made to qualified organizations exempt under 501(c)(3) or comparable charitable organization qualification. Such grants are restricted to those that will most effectively assist and promote the well-being of the inhabitants of the state of Alabama, preferably those of Southwest Alabama. 2) The JL Bedsole Foundation initiated the JL Bedsole Scholars Program, which was pre-approved by the Exempt Org Branch of the IRS under a determination letter dated April 15, 1993. The program is a limited scholarship grant program which annually awards initial scholarship grants to approximately 30 graduating high school seniors who are enrolled in a qualifying Alabama university, college, or technical school. Such grants are renewable for the term of the grantee's undergraduate course of study if certain qualifications are met. The grants are available to residents of 5 counties in Southwest Alabama.
